The American Dream (Explicit)
Mike Jones
Released:
Nov 2007
Label:
Asylum/Swishahouse
It's tempting to say that Mike Jones is a horrible emcee. His raps' lacks wit, detail and narrative, but the lyrics' simplicity, as well as his dopey voice and looping delivery (where he'll repeat the same lines over and over), ultimately has a hypnotic effect that matches his track's pinging H-Town crawl. This was originally supposed to be Jones' full-length sophomore album, but delays and a resounding lack of interest led the label to shorten it to an EP and include his two biggest hits, "Still Tippin'" and "Back Then," from his debut. Ultimately, this feels like a write-off for Asylum.
