What A Long Strange Trip It's Been - The Best Of The Grateful Dead (Single)
The Grateful Dead
Released:
Jan 1977
Label:
Grateful Dead/Rhino
When Warner Brothers released this compilation in 1977, the double album was for many folks their first exposure to the Dead's rambling boogie-rock Americana. A major cult phenomenon that never got airplay in proportion to its popularity, the Dead's densely constructed albums posed a problem for the beginner. This distillation of the band's strongest songs from each of their early records, with no fat to speak of and a few live cuts thrown in, worked as a fantastic album on its own. For the casual listener this holds true even today, decades after its release.
