He's got 'burns to shame Lenny Kravitz -- and a jones for the '70s to match -- but Alex Cuba is no leering Lothario. He's a love-struck singer-songwriter, penning songs that are as emotionally exposed as they are melodically comforting. (The album practically demands cathartic sing-alongs at the top of your voice.) Only one track, "If You Give Me Love," sounds like a reject from his alternate job penning tracks for pop stars. One curiosity: "Amar" kicks off with the chord progression from the Spin Doctors' "Two Princes" and closes with the jangle from Sixpence None The Richer's "Kiss Me."
