Since 2007's Underclass Hero, the heavy burden of adulthood has officially staked its claim on these prickly pop-punks, most notably on Deryck Whibley, whose public divorce with Avril Lavigne surely inspired the hard-hitting sounds and self-reflective words of Screaming Bloody Murder. "I have the fears, the pain and the tears I just can't hide," he states, while break-up ballad "What Am I to Say," well, says it all. But it's not all moping; the entire band sounds lit-up with aggression. Barrages of rhythms and riffs often bring their snappy pop vignettes into near headbang territory.
