This torch album from the East Coast version of June Christy is wrapped in one of the great covers of the 1950s. Sometimes, Ralph Burn's orchestrations are too overtly lush and melodramatic (harps galore), but Connor 's cool narrative sense keep things from going over the edge. Highlights include a wrist-slasher reading of Gershwin's "But Not for Me" and the beatnik tune "Thursday's Child."
