The Walkmen are starting to sound like noble statesmen of indie rock. On seventh album Heaven, they shuffle between upbeat rockers and jangling ballads with aplomb, sprinkling in humming barbershop harmonies (like on "We Can't Be Beat," featuring Fleet Foxes' Robin Pecknold) and delicate acoustic plucks. Frontman Hamilton Leithauser's regal howl has always evoked a man well beyond his years; now his age is slowly catching up to that voice, as he ruminates on love with resignation, and reflects on his new role as dad, cooing, "I sing myself sick about you," on the tender "Song for Leigh."
