First released in 1968, Rare Precious & Beautiful is a collection of cuts recorded in Australia between 1964 and '66, a couple years before the Brothers Gibb became international pop stars. The group captured here is significantly less baroque and symphonic than the one that would craft masterpieces like Horizontal and Odessa. Not surprisingly, their sound is heavily influenced by Merseybeat-era Beatles, The Hollies and The Kinks. Though definitely embryonic, the trio's trademark harmonies (thin, quivering, achingly desperate) can be heard on "Glass House," "Spicks and Specks" and "Playdown."
