Edwin Starr was one of the few belters on the Motown label, and he seamlessly blended the more uptown Northern Soul style with the grittier Memphis sound. We all know his lasting protest hit "War," but the rest of his R&B output is just as strong. Picture James Brown in the land of Diana Ross.
