If every track on the Hugh Masekela’s umpteenth album sounds like a jubilant celebration at the end of a long struggle or significant event, you’re not making movie montages out of molehills. Jabulani is an homage to the wedding traditions the 72-year-old trumpeter grew up participating in in South Africa. Accompanied by a full band, a small choir and plenty of gospel and soul twinges, Masekela’s gravelly tenor and bright trumpet blast the dizzying joy and the deep sense of community a wedding can encompass into the layered party of “Tsoang Tsoang” and the lilting, conversational “Fiela.”
