Lazy Cowgirls

Barreling from Indiana to Los Angeles like a hot-shot train days behind schedule, the Lazy Cowgirls hit the big city in 1985 with a handful of songs thick with buzzsaw guitars and a healthy sense of Garage Rock attitude. Since then the Lazy Cowgirls have become a Punk institution, though they don't quite play Punk anymore, and they're still sadly overlooked. With their teeth-gritting, fiery songs, these guys helped blow the doors wide open for the giant Garage Rock Revival explosion in the late-80s and early-90s. They gave a nod to both the Ramones and the Rolling Stones, working hard-luck blues into their blazing sound. As time has passed, the Cowgirls' sound has matured, and a humbling (though still boisterous) country feel has replaced their sneering Punk attitude. They still have the loud, grumbling guitars and too-many-late-nights vocals, but the band works with a smarter songwriting style -- pushing hard but unafraid to take it slow sometimes. Young punks are almost sure to turn their noses up at the Lazy Cowgirls. Give 'em a few years though, and they'll be sitting at home, playing the hell out of Ragged Soul along with the rest of us.
