Biography
A 1953 discovery by folk music historian Alan Lomax brought Margaret Barry to the attention of an international audience. Prior to the influential recordings he made of her, Barry was a Cork street musician supporting herself through the performance of traditional Celtic Folk songs. Accompanied by her own forlorn banjo picking, she sings with unfinished power and has been credited with penning a number of now-standard songs in the Irish tradition.
