After 2010's songful Where Is the Truth, for City Centre Offices, Mark Van Hoen ignores his pop inclinations in favor of darker hues and more diffuse shapes. Returning to the 4-track recording methods he used as a teen in the early '80s, he immerses himself in foggy drum tracks and even foggier synths and voices, sounding variously like a hazier DJ Shadow or Klaus Schulze. Lysergic enough to make most chillwave sound straightedge by comparison, "37/3d" ventures deep down a wormhole of warped tape, while echoes of trip-hop ripple through "Don't Look Back" and "Where Were You."
