Hers was the gorgeous voice that permeated the English Patient soundtrack, and on Marta Sebestyen's 2009 release, she again reminds us what it means to be haunted. She is, clearly -- by Hungary's past, by her connection to the folk and religious music she investigates and in some cases resurrects. She's accompanied by just two musicians, Matyas Bolya and Balasz Szokolay, and the simplicity makes for an album that seems to send out feelers into a vast and silent universe, her voice just a frail strike against the silence, and all the more beautiful for that.
