The London duo's 2009 debut album was tempered by washes of subtle shoegaze fuzz, but their 2012 follow-up shoots more for the stadium. Every layer of sound on Future This percolates with sleek beats and synths that flutter between woozy rattles and laser-beam sizzles. Alan Moulder (Depeche Mode, NIN) is behind the mixing, which may have something to do with the darker synth-pop sound of tracks like "1313," "Jump Music" and "Lose Your Mind" -- all ideal for a post-apocalyptic club -- that is, if any indie kids manage to survive. It's a little like The Drums if they grew up British.
