Description

Though Space Rock has been around for a number of years, it came into its own as a subgenre with Spacemen 3, the groundbreaking trio from England, on their record Taking Drugs To Make Music To Take Drugs To. Space Rock is dreamy, narcotic music geared less toward conventional notions of melody and pop hooks than toward tone and sustained, hypnotic harmonies. Feedback and overtones play as strong a role in the music as do analog synths and effects-laden guitars. Bands like Spiritualized, Mogwai and Windy & Carl explore a different notion of rock, incorporating Gospel, Techno, horns, strings, and just about anything else that catches their ears.
